Meet Richard Kaub

Chief Technical Officer (CTO)

Richard has been employed in the professional broadcast, satellite and associated technology industries for more decades than he is willing to admit. He went through Broadcast Engineering Training at the ABC. He moved into satellite Network Operations at Aussat, before it became Optus and moved on to being a Technical Specialist in both the satellite and Pay-TV groups.

Senior Engineering/Support roles with major international broadcast equipment vendors Scientific Atlanta/Cisco, Thomson/Grass Valley supporting large customers like Foxtel. Received specialist training in Hong Kong, China, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France. Consultant/contractor for Pay-TV operations in Pacific islands and remote Australia. He has become a realspecialist in broadcast, transmission, RF and especially compression (MPEG/DVB).

Since moving back to his family home in Perth, Western Australia, in 2017, Richard has been employed by Swift Networks, and now for over three years as CTO of the AVW Group, with multiple offices in Australia and New Zealand. Apart from heading a technical team across five hours of timezones, one of the major business areas that he has been involved with has been entertainment and communications systems in some very remote areas of Australia. These TV re-distribution and wi-fi systems service residents numbering from about one hundred to several thousand, with many different technologies chosen for each unique situation.

Before heading to the West, Richard had been a long time member of SMPTE, having served on the Aus/NZ Board for several years and Papers/Conference Chair for three bi-annual events in Sydney.
